Medium-Size freight businesses, particularly those who have actually not been in existence for extremely long, will typically find it difficult to protect a loan. Banks are commonly reluctant to lend money to companies that do not have a great deal of earnings and assets. They likewise want evidence of the viability of a company and thus need that most operations, specifically little ones, been around for a particular amount of time before they want to turn over any cash. Because of this, a small company typically has a couple of cash producing options when needs develop. One option available, but often overlooked, is invoice factoring. This is an exceptional method for a small company to get cash.

How To Get More Profit From Your Receivables - Pick A Receivable Loan C0mpany Instead Of A Regular Bank Financing

How to Enhance Money Flow Without Borrowing -Cash Money flow is one of the primary reasons companies fail.

At one time or another, every company, even successful ones, have actually experienced bad money flow.

Money flow does not have to be an issue any more. Do not be deceived -- banks are not the only locations you can get funding. Other options are offered and you do not have to borrow money. What is trucking factoring ? One solution is called trucking factoring. Trucking Factoring is the procedure of offering invoices to an investor instead of waiting to gather the cash from the client. Oh, the Irony- Truck factoring has a paradoxical distinction: It is the monetary foundation of numerous of America's most successful businesses. Why is this paradoxical ? Since factoring is not instructed in business colleges, is rarely mentioned in business plans and is relatively unidentified to bulk of most of American company people.

Yet it is a financial procedure that releases up billions of dollars every year, enabling thousands of companies to grow and succeed. Receivable Loan Financing has been around for countless years. FACTORING Companies are financiers who pay money for the right to get the future payments on your invoices. An overdue receivable or invoice has value. It is a debt your customer has agreed pay in the near future. Factoring Principals--Although factoring offers solely with business-to-business transactions, a large percentage of the retail business utilizes a factoring principal. MasterCard, Visa, and American Express all use a form of factoring in their retail transactions. Using the purest definition of the word, these big customer finance companies are really simply large Factoring Businesses of consumer paper. Think about it: You purchase at Sears and charge it to your MasterCard. The store gets paid almost immediately, although you do not pay up until you are prepared.

For this service, the charge card business charges Sears a charge (typical common normal charges range from two to four percent of the sale). The Benefits Invoice Factoring can offer numerous advantages to cash-hungry companies. Rather than wait 30, 60, 90 days or longer for payment on an item that has currently been delivered, a business can factor (sell) its receivables for money at a small price cut off the amount of the invoice. Payroll, advertising efforts, and working capital are simply a few of the business needs that can be satisfied with instant  money.

Commercial Factoring offers the ways for a manufacturer to replenish stock and make more products to offer: There is no longer a requirement to wait for earlier sales to be paid. FACTORING is not just a money management device for producers: Almost any type company can benefit from Commercial Factoring. Generally, a business that extends credit will have 10 to 20 percent of its yearly sales bound in invoices at any given time. Think for a minute about how much is bound in 60 days' worth of invoices: You can not pay the power expense or this week s payroll with a customer s invoice, however you can sell that invoice for the money to meet those obligations. Using trucking factoring companies is a quick and simple procedure. The factor buys the invoice at a discount, usually a couple of portion points less than the face value of the invoice.

Chavez Truck & Haul have been operating their business since the mid 1980s. For more than twenty years they've been delivering goods for most major industries in the nation, with business booming as they traversed the country, in all kinds of weather, for all kinds of clients. During the boom times from 2002 to 2007 Chavez Truck & Haul was the mastermind of a top-rated accounts receivable in the trucking industry. Very few customers were behind on their bills, and those customers who were late turned in their overdue payments within an acceptable time frame. Times were great for everyone, and the cash was flowing. It was just one year later, in 2008, when the economy in the United States took a sharp decline, and both large and small businesses started to notice the squeeze on their pocketbooks: everyone had suddenly gone silent. Business slowed down. Worse still, it was noticed by Chavez in early 2008 that even though most of their loyal customers were on time with their payments, there were a few late bloomers who were starting to spread the disease. And as spring turmed to summer and summer into the early days of fall, Lester Fisher, CEO of Chavez felt a chill go down his spine whenever he would look at the weekly A/R reports. The number of clients who were late in their payments was continuing to grow.He had already been to the administrators to ask what the actual problem was. Were they doing something wrong or different when it came to reaching out to delinquent accounts? By his bookkeepers records, this wasn't the case. Perhaps he was losing his customers to his competitor, who seemed to offer very low prices with no guarantee of quality or performance, and these clients who were in debt to his company had possibly disappeared leaving him stranded. They could not afford to pay him their debt, but they could afford a lesser service, maybe. So he did the necessary research and, after discussions with friends in the same field, he realised that no, his customers hadn't gone anywhere else. The had just gone!.To Lester Fisher the situation looked desperate. Lester was very concerned, because there were constant overheads, goods to ship, employees to pay, and trucks which needed to be maintained, but there just wasn't the money coming back into the business. In the evenings he would discuss his concerns with his wife, Kristen, and still find no relief from the worry and frustration.

""I have a bad feeling, Lin,"" he would say with deep woe.""What could you do differently?"" she would ask.Lester would stare off into the distance, and then slowly close his eyes. In his mind he could clearly see the fleet of trucks purchased over the many years. He could see them traveling, bringing goods to all of his clients. But then a haze would cover his trucks and his vast fleet would vanish to leave just a few. Why couldnt he work out how to resolve this financial problem with his business?""I know what it is,"" Lester said. ""For way too long I've been relying solely on profits received from invoices. For too long I've been allowing our clients to let their accounts become overdue."" Kristen would look at her husband lovingly, and holding his hand would say 'it is such a harsh economy these days and our clients must be having difficulty meeting their responsibilities'.""Kristen was trying so hard to support her husband in these worrying times, while Lester was weighed down with the worry of how he was going to handle this situation he found himself in.The following day Lester walked into his office with a spring in his step, determined to call each and every client who owed money to Chavez Truck & Haul. This wasn't really a very efficient way for a Chief Executive to spend his day, and Lester knew he should be overseeing all the other sides of the business, such as shipments and deliveries, approaching prospective customers, or working with his sales team. Even though he was doing something to help his company, he knew he had folks on salary to do just this thing. A waste of time - a waste of money - he had the best intentions, but all the while Lester was realising just how much trouble he was in.After a half day of contacting debtors in vain - they dodged his calls or promised to call back at worst or made minimal interest-only payments at best - he was about to throw in the towel when his secretary Rosemaryerley knocked at his door.

""Can I have a word with you Lester?"" she queried, standing in the doorway.

""Sure thing Rosemary, come on in."" Lester leaned back in his chair and looked expectantly at Rosemaryerely.""Well, I did a little searching this afternoon and tried to figure out a way out of this mess Lester."" She pulled a small stack of papers from a folder and set them on the desk before him.""Have you ever heard the word factoring?"" Rosemaryerley asked.""It does sound vaguely familiar. What is factoring""? he asked.""Well,"" she began, ""Its actually quite simple really.

So basically, factoring invoices would enable us to get paid on the nose for loads that we haul.""Lester interrupted ""Immediately?"".""Yes, immediately,"" she continued, ""it is actually very simple. We start by having a professional account manager review our figures and help us set up a company profile. Included in the profile would be the investigation of our accounts receivable aging reports, our current customers' credit limits etc.. Additionally, the factoring will help to determine the creditworthiness of our customers independent of their credit history with our business. Its a broad view.""I see, Lester said. And then what?""Following the completion of their review and once we have been approved for a contract with the factoring company, then we sit down to negotiate conditions and terms. You'll be surprised at the amount of flexibility, all dependent upon the credit histories and business volume.

The company will advise us the cost to purchase factoring for our company's accounts receivable. We come to an agreement and the funding starts pouring out.Lester was still a little concerned. He leaned forward in his chair and studied the paperwork very closely.""I do not know, Rosemary - it just sounds too good to be true"", Lester said quietly.""Yes, I know; that's exactly what I thought at the beginning. But really, they have guaranteed us experts that do all the legwork, which would free us up here to focus on our clients in good standing and marketing, all that good stuff. And they're flexible Lester,"" she underlined a paragraph on the paper before him.""Just how flexible?"" asked Lester.""They personalize the factoring rates so that the amount they are willing to take on is commensurate with our needs and our clients debt. Apparently they can figure this all out in two to four days.

""That sounds pretty good, seeing as we tapped ourselves out with bank loans last year to repair the fleet and money sure is tight. it is imperative that we keep the business rolling as usual, and every day we go unpaid we are getting closer and closer to dealing with some serious issues in both the short term and the long term,"" said Lester. He took a deep breath and looked at his secretary with something she recognized as hope.""Exactly. I think this might just be a way out of the trouble we are in with these folks who owe us money.""Lester took a moment to think about this solution, and agreed with his secretary. The clients who owed them money were long standing friends and professional resources of Chavez. Lester wasn't prepared to lose these relationships just because they were having financial issues at the moment. Lester knew only too well that the whole economy was floundering, and that it was not going to change overnight. That unknown amount of time could create a disaster situation for both of them if he wasn't careful in how these debtors were handled. He did not want to lose business but he also did not want to lose any more money.""Well, let me think about this tonight Rosemary, thank you."" Rosemary stood up and left Lester's office, with the nice feeling of knowing that she may just have solved a very serious problem.Lester sat behind his desk and looked over the details Rosemary had not mentioned in their meeting. What other issues could freight factoring help Chavez with? With his pencil gliding down the sheet he noticed that the factoring company could help fray the cost of fuel with fuel discount cards and fuel advances. In fact, Chavez could receive up to fifty-percent cash advances upon load pick-ups. As a man who hated binding contracts with no room to breathe, he was pleased to see that this factoring company would not make him sign a long term contract, would not make him pay any sign up fees and there was no minimum volume required.""Well, I'll have to tell Vincent about this,"" muttered Lester to himself. His son-in-law Vincent had liked the idea of Chavez so much and revered his father in law for having such business acumen that only two years before, he had gathered the venture capital to begin his own transportation service company. Lester knew then what struggles Vincent would face but he encouraged him nonetheless. With the faltering economy, if a big fish like Chavez was hurting, a little guy like Vincent was about to catch his death. But, maybe the answer for both of them was in freight factoring, and Lester was going to find out very soon.A few short months later, after completing the application process, having the legal experts review his credit history, accounts receivable, and statements, finally Lester was beginning to find his way out of the hole his debtors had created for him. They adopted reasonable factoring purchase contracts and stopped wasting their own precious time trying to collect debts. They took that time and refocused effort to offering competitive prices in new territories. Lester recalled those dismal months when he wasn't aware of freight factoring, and he shuddered at those memories. Had he missed the boat on this one, he probably wouldn't be in business today.

The Future of a Trucking Company, and Factoring The phone was ringing on his desk, and Claude George just sat there letting it ring. He let his morning coffee cool and left his cigarette to ash itself in the tray, because he is trying to make the biggest decision ever for his trucking company. George Trucking Company was at a turning point of growth and Claude had to decide if signing with a factoring company was the right way forward.

More than forty years ago Claude's father had started this business working as an owner-operator and eventually growing George Trucking Company into a fifteen trailer fleet. There had been some hard times when it seemed everything was going to go under and even Claudes mother strapped herself into a cab to make hauls. His father had lived long enough to witness the price of hires drop during the recession and watch the eruption of fuel prices afterwards. But now things were different: the company was in Claude's hands and he needed to ensure that this business would be left in great shape for his sons.

To move George Trucking Company ahead into the future, he needed a steady cash flow but there was just not enough money to go around. He had employees to pay. They had families and household bills too. A few of the refrigerated trailers really needed some maintenance, and in order to stay competitive he really wanted to invest in specialized haulers to meet the increasing requests for loads of agricultural and energy equipment. He knew that turning down these requests made George Trucking look inefficient and weak in what was currently a strong market.

His father would have told him to wait and to take his time adding on new technology. Claude allowed himself a good hard chuckle. He remembered when his father was totally against installing GPS units in the cabs. He would say, Why do you need the voice of some woman to tell you to get off at an exit that has been the same exit that has been there for years? Also his father had the habit of teasing all the drivers he caught switching into automatic even though driving in automatic was much more efficient though not manly in his fathers eyes. He knew his father's days were long gone and new technology was very important for the business, like having Qualcomm to reduce communication time for bills of lading.

Claude knew he was right in his forward thinking. What would be the next step for George Trucking? And how would he be able to afford it? Funding was all tied up in the mortgage for the office and garage and in the fuel bills. He just finished paying off the small bank loan for installing satellite radio in the trucks for the guys.

But was factoring the answer? If he was being honest, he did not really understand how it all worked. It sounded like a ninth grade math problem and he wondered how this would fit into the trucking business. A factoring company actually purchases your invoices and takes control of your accounts receivable, payment being a certain percentage of the amount invoiced. The factoring company gives the trucking business its payment right away which allows the business to have continuous cash flow so it can pay employees, buy fuel, and make repairs for upcoming hauls. Without the assistance of factoring, you have to wait for customers to send you the payment which is often 30 days late. During those thirty days the trucking company cannot pay its employees and bills with invoices.

Now it was time for Claude to do his homework. He had heard of companies charging for same day money transfers, advancing a percentage of the money owed to your business, while the rest is held in a private account if the bill wasn't paid within sixty or more days. Worse still, if the customer defaulted on payment, the factoring company takes it out of the money supposedly coming to you! Through the grapevine, hed also heard about how some companies suddenly slipped you onto a sliding scale of percentages even if you had already signed a lengthy contract for maybe 3% or 7% so there you are with 10% coming as a cost to you out of the freight bill. His friend Ronnie who had a trucking business in Missouri, was run nearly into the ground by a factoring company that charged him the full freight bill on top of the factoring fees. He knew he would have to be very careful if he was to avoid any of these shady companies?

But it turned out to be quite easy. All the factoring companies he researched were open about their business practices and very friendly on the phone when he called. Customer service appeared to understand their company and explained in clear, concise English exactly how it all worked. He didnt mind signing an exclusive contract. He liked the idea of a long term commitment so he knew he wouldnt have to bother going back and forth to different companies and wasting time filing more forms. Nobody charged him for credit checks and they offered him a fuel advance on the pick-up of the load. In fact there were a few companies who offered him a non-recourse factoring program, and this was exactly what he had been hoping for. Also he was happy to hear how much he was offered in terms of percentages on the freight bills. It sounded like a great scheme to him.

It was really refreshing dealing with the factoring people. They were extremely helpful and more personable than the bank staff. He was relieved to note that the factoring companies understood the trucking business and discussed business with him like a respected client, not like someone looking for a handout. The factoring companies were not interested in his credit nor the financial problems his father had experienced in the past. All the factoring company was interest in was the credit of his customers and on their reliability: this worked great for Claude because he and his father had created a very strong and loyal list of clientele over the years. So he knew they would understand when the factoring company contacted them for the invoices. His clients would not have any problems, nor would they think poorly of George Trucking, because the factoring companies handle themselves in such a polite and professional manner, similar to the way his father had managed the business in the past.

Claude stepped out of his office to let his secretary know to expect the arrival of the factoring contract shortly. He felt exhilarated by the new possibilities that would make the future of the company fun again and put the stress of the difficult times behind him. With the capabilities of this new cash flow, Claude could actually expand George Trucking Company further across the country and perhaps even go international into Canada. He was a happy man again knowing that he had just made a decision which would guarantee the success of his business and his sons would not be inheriting a financial mess.

Trucking Factoring  Articles

"

So, this is not a loan? Eric Powell asked as he leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs. The woman who sat across the desk smiled and shook her head. Not quite, she stated.Eric was the owner of a small trucking company which had fallen on some hard times recently. Trucking could be a profitable business, and for a little under a decade, it had been for Marshall. He named his business Gomez Trucking, named after Barry and Ted, his two grandfathers. They had both been hardworking men, and had done a lot to make Eric the same.Six months ago disaster struck Marshall's business when two out of his fleet of fifteen trucks were taken off the road.

One was involved in a very costly accident, and the other simply rolled over, and headed to the trucking graveyard. Eric depended on his full fleet, and missing two trucks was devastating . Furthermore, buying a whole new truck and fixing the other simply took more cash than Eric had on hand.A big problem a lot of trucking companies came across was how bills were paid in the industry. Waiting a month or longer for bills to be paid was quite normal. This system works okay as long as no problems arise, but if they do, then things can get quite sticky.Eric wasnt a bad owner, and he hadnt messed up. Certain events had occurred that he could not possibly have predicted, and now he had to find a way to protect his business and prevent it from ultimate devastation.Thats where the woman across the desk came in. Eric knew she was employed by a Factoring company and that her name was Nancy. He had accidentally come across her company one night when he was working late, searching the internet to see if there was some solution to his financial dilemma.Nancy explained. it is really not a loan at all: we actually buy your accounts receivable. we are not giving you finance to be repaid later: we are purchasing something from you, and when you can you can buy it back. This is a win-win situation: we are protected from a total loss, and you're protected from the ridiculous fees and charges you'd have to pay if you borrowed from a bank.Eric nodded. It sounded perfect - perhaps too good?.The woman laughed. You look like you dont believe me, she chuckled. No, I do, I just think it sounds a bit too good to be true. I actually thought I might end up losing my business.Nancy smiled, agreeing. Yes, we get a lot of that. Listen, Id hate to see you lose your company. You work hard, youve put everything you can into it. We all need help sometimes. That's why we do what we do.""Well, I'm very grateful that you came to see me today.""No problem - I'm just down the road. We normally do it all online but I was happy to come and visit you today, said Nancy with a smile. Lets see what we can do to help you.And with that they set about making a profile.

Eric filled the form out, with Nancy available to help him if he needed it. The profile filled Nancy and her company in on Marshalls company, and would help them determine if he was suitable for factoring. In truth, not all companies were. Some were beyond factoring special brand of help, and sometimes things werent even dire enough for it. As Eric completed his form, Nancy listened to his story and she felt quite sure he would be the ideal candidate for Factoring. When the form was done Nancy took it and slid it into her briefcase. She then stood, reached across the desk and shook Marshalls hand. He also stood up, and they smiled at each other. They said their goodbyes and Eric walked her to the door, and then returned to his office. All his staff members were there, all seven who worked in his office. Sitting behind his desk once more he could hear the familiar sounds of his office workers going about their daily business. He leaned back and closed his eyes. He had felt so helpless lately, was sure the whole thing was collapsing, and would take him with it. But now, after speaking to Nancy and learning all about Factoring, he felt such a huge relief, like someone had just lifted a huge weight off his shoulders. He relaxed into his chair, running his hand through his thick black hair with its telling streaks of grey. The long nights, where he couldnt sleep. The terrifying panic attacks that occurred regardless of where he was. He could feel it all fading away. He knew it wasn't over yet and that there was still a way to go, but he could just feel everything start to change for him. He was there, he was on the right path, and he was working to make things right. His mind wandered back to the very beginning, when he first started his business. He had opened a restaurant at age twenty two when he was fresh out of school. It had been successful. Offering home cooking in his own hometown, his business had really prospered. But it wasn't what he really wanted to do. His passion didnt lie with the food industry. He thought long and hard, and then he decided to sell the restaurant. He took half a year off, and in that time he thought to start Gomez Trucking. And that's exactly what he did. For the second time in his short life he created a company from the ground up. He had been successful. Then disaster! The two trucks went down and suddenly his success wasn't looking so guaranteed. He was nearing fifty. He was concerned that he just did not have the energy left to try and save the business. But he couldnt give up. Just the thought of shutting down, cutting his losses, laying off his workers - the whole thing made him physically sick some nights. Traditional Bank Loans

Finance through a bank loan is the normal, or traditional, way of financing your business. These loans can be a life-saver, but they're not always available to every business. For example, a fairly newly established business simply may not have the assets to readily get a loan from a bank, even if they do, the standard collateral for a business loan is the business itself, which means that if you cannot make your loan payment, you risk losing your entire business. Plus, the amount you apply for through the bank is the actual amount that you are going to receive. Of course, once that loan has been re-paid, you can always re-apply for another loan.

Trucking Factoring Companies

Trucking Factoring companies do not give loans, and the money you get from the Trucking Factoring company does not put you in debt. Rather the financing you receive from a Trucking Factoring company is based on money your business has already earned, but have not yet received. The Trucking Factoring company purchases your accounts receivable, or part of them, for a certain percentage of their value - this is normally about 80-95%. The amount of finance you can receive will be based on the amount you have earned and the accounts receivable you are prepared to sell. Once you have set up Trucking Factoring account it continues as long as you wish it too and the amount of money available to you even can grow as your business grows, giving you the ready cash you need to meet your own obligations.

Benefits of a Trucking Factoring Company Vs. A Bank Loan

Not every business can benefit from Trucking Factoring account financing because you have to have a business with accounts receivable, however there are many benefits for those who can access this type of finance.

1. There is no debt. You do not incur debt as you do with a bank loan because the Trucking Factoring company actually purchases your accounts receivable. One of the main benefits of this kind of financing is that your business credit rating and your personal credit rating will not be affected. Should the unforeseeable happen and your business fails, you will not have to worry about anyone coming after your personal as well as your business assets to pay off a loan. With a bank loan, the debt goes onto your credit report, and even one late payment can adversely affect your businesses credit, and even the ability to get insurance and may even reflect upon your personal credit rating.

2. No Collateral Required. Another great benefit of using the services of a Trucking Factoring company instead of a bank loan is that there is no collateral required for the Trucking Factoring company, because the Trucking Factoring company is buying your accounts receivables. Plus, the state of your credit rating is not an issue; however the Trucking Factoring company will run a credit check on your clients whose accounts receivable are being offered for financing. This makes it easier for fledgling businesses to get the financing they need through a Trucking Factoring company (as long as their accounts receivables are in good order) then from a bank, who may not feel that you have been in business long enough to be worth the risk of issuing you a loan.

3. You'll receive the money faster. Using a Trucking Factoring company means that you'll get the finance quicker. Once the Trucking Factoring company assures itself that the customers in your accounts receivable are likely to pay their debt, the money is usually in the account within 24 hours. With a bank, there are vast amounts of paperwork, then the loan has to be underwritten, which can take months before you actually see the loan if it is approved.

4.You receive interest up-front. With a bank loan interest continues to build, and this has to be paid the whole time you have a business loan; however with a Trucking Factoring company there is no interest - they take it right off the top by deducting it from the total amount of receivable accounts. So you do not have to worry about monthly loan repayments, and you do not have to worry about the amount of interest payable, because all the money in the account is yours to spend.

As you can see, there are several benefits that makes considering financing through a Trucking Factoring company over a traditional bank worthwhile. However, there are also a couple of other benefits that a factory company can offer your business is far beyond the scope of the bank. The most important benefits is that once you sell your accounts receivable to the factory company, you do not have to take time away from running your business to collect the money owed from reluctant to pay customers. Since these accounts belong to the Trucking Factoring company, this is now their job. Trucking Factoring companies are very efficient at debt collecting, and this frees up your valuable time to devote to running your company.

Another bonus is that, because the Trucking Factoring company has evaluated the quality of your customers' credit before buying the accounts receivable, you learn valuable information regarding your customers, like which ones are likely to pay, and which ones are less likely to pay. While a Trucking Factoring company is not the only way for your business to obtain the money it needs to keep growing, it does offer a type of financing well worth considering.
